We offer you two options for becoming a Dive Instructor
If you are ready to get to working as a dive Instructor we offer a complete simple solution for Divemasters with a 14 day IDC (Instructor Development Course) once per month followed by Instructor Examinations right here on Cozumel or Playa de Carmen.
We also offer a second option, Change of Life “COL”. This is an Instructor Internship program for Non- Divers to Instructor. The time need for this option is approximately 7 months. You will go from PADI Open water, Advanced Open water, Emergency First Responder, Rescue Diver and Divemaster finishing as an Open Water Scuba Instructor (OWSI). This program will enable you to gain experience working in a dive center, log additional dives and have the additional time to focus on getting more experience before completing your Instructor level training.
Our IDC (Instructor Development Course) program also includes the Emergency First Response Instructor rating. Our IDC also will prepare you for employment by giving you the PADI Emergency O2 Provider Instructor Course and the Enriched Air Instructor Course (NITROX) free of charge.
Our goal is to prepare you to work in a variety of Dive Shops, Dive Centers and Dive Resorts around the world. We have an expanded IDC curriculum to include Workshops in; Discover Scuba Diving, Adventures in Diving, Rescue Diver, Multi-level, eRDPml use, knot tying, lift bag use and PADI’s newest digital revolution e-Learning for both the Open Water and Advanced programs.
After completing the IDC we offer Instructor Specialty Training. This helps new Dive Instructors gain the experience needed in teaching specialty courses and will make you more employable.
To be a good Dive Instructor you will need a sense of humor, a respect for the environment, good diving skills and a love of working with people. To attend our IDC you will need to have been a certified diver for at least 6 months with a minimum 100 logged dives. If you lack dives we can organize Instructor Internships at one of our IDC Referral Centers here on Cozumel.
You will also need to be a PADI Divemaster (contact us if you have a certification from a different agency) be at least 18 years old, provide a signed and dated PADI Medical Statement (available locally for $40).
